The introduction of a number of consumer technologies has brought about seismic changes in the media industry, locally and globally. Both sides of the fence, consumers and producers, have felt the effects of such. On the consumers’ side, apps on cellphones, social media and the migration to on-demand content consumption have, on the other hand, negatively impacted on the traditional producers of content. Old media producers (newspapers, magazines, etc.) have been the hardest hit as some have even closed doors as a result. Some have taken the goodwill their brands command and migrated to online platforms as a strategy.
